Hazing Scandal

^^Thanks, Nikosmom, for documenting that frats have been a blight on more campuses than just Dartmouth. That doesn’t lessen Dartmouth’s problem at all, but perhaps Dartmouth’s and Courtland’s administrators and leaders could share notes and advice about what hasn’t worked in solving the problem.

AboutTheSame- I agree Dartmouth does a lot of things well. However, as evidenced by this thread’s title, we are talking about the Hazing scandal here. In no way does that mean we are anti-Dartmouth (I, for one, am considering applying ED), its just the topic which is being discussed in this thread. Feel free to look to the other threads, and even start your own, to praise the school. However, part of the CC experience is discussing ALL aspects of a school, making the hazing scandal appropriate for this website.

xcalculatin – I can read. I thought this thread in particular needed that reminder. Regards.

I think the issue with Dartmouth is not that hazing has occurred, as it has at many schools, but the fact that the administration and trustees are turning a blind eye or feigning an inability to control the frats or other groups involved. See below from trustee Nathaniel Fick who thinks hazing is great for team building:

[Dartmouth?s Newest Trustee Defended Hazing: ?It Was About How Much I Could Give? > Dartmouth, hazing, Nathaniel Fick | IvyGate](http://www.ivygateblog.com/2012/04/dartmouths-newest-trustee-defended-hazing-it-was-about-how-much-i-could-give/)

How many students will have to be injured physically, mentally, etc., until a stop is put to this? Dartmouth has many wonderful qualities but if some student winds up dead because of hazing no one will really care at that point.

Recent article on hazing scandel at Dartmouth. Looks like the person who came forward will be the only one sanctioned as the charges were dropped against the 27 other “brothers”. Great way to encourage change by nailing the one person strong enough to come forward.

LakeClouds: Please do your research, All charges against Mr. Lohse were dropped. One can question whether he should have been charged by the college in the first place (I think that was an extremely stupid decision myself), but this “newspaper” oped adds nothing to the debate and was written by someone who did not check his facts. Journalism grade? Fail.

AboutTheSame- Believe it or not, I can also read and, from the context of your post, I believed you might need the reminder. If you disagree, be that as it may, but don’t criticize me sarcastically.

May I criticize you non-sarcastically then? Oops, I probably did it again. Seriously, that was not sarcastic criticism. I guess I should have added a smiley face. I thought you missed the point of my initial post. Yes. There are all sorts of other threads. I felt this one needed what I said. You are free to disagree. Some people agreed with me. Regards.

Fair enough.

^^ Thanks.

It seems like little or nothing was done to address the hazing practices at Dartmouth. So the beat (or beatings) goes on?
