Was anyone accepted to any?

You might find more response and definitely more support at:

There are message board forums and/or online resources for high school students, parents, current HBCU students and faculty.

I don't know if these links will work from CC, but try:

The HBCU Network, another website, may also be of interest,
though it seems mostly for alumni...

i applied to hampton bc i wanted a presidential scholarship (tuit, room, & board for 1300+ on SAT). sent app in before dec 1st. haven't gotten a confirmation yet. emailed & called office of admissons. they don't help.

this has pretty much shown me that HBCU's are full of red tape when it comes to how things run. i hope you have a better experience than i'm currently having. Howard was even worse. IMO, if HBCU's want to keep the talented black kids, they need to get organized & step it up a notch.

Yeah, my brother applied to North Carolina A&T and Morehouse. He got into both.

How are hispanics treated in HBCU's? What about if they are light skinned(white) hispanics?

Do you have to be black to get their scholarships? I'm Vietnamese, so does any of it pertain to me?

I got a full ride to Morehouse.

One doesn't have to be black to get scholarships to HBCUs. Not only do some HBCUs have scholarships based on SAT scores, but some also have scholarships designed to recruit URMs. "URMs" on HBCU campuses means races underrepresented on those campuses. Thus, blacks are not URMs at HBCUs, but Hispanics, Asians,Native American and, I think, even white students qualify as URMs there and may even have a special "minority student" advisor.

jf215,

I think it's jumping the gun to assume that because ONE HBCA didn't handle your application right, all of them are swimming in red tape. I don't think that's a defendible conclusion in the least.

And you're right, Northstarmom. One of my friends (white) attended an HBCU. Hampton, incidentally, has a long history educating Native Americans as well.

I love spelman, I think they're so terrriffic.
