HCSSiM 2017 application process - problem set

Thought of starting a general discussion thread on HCSSiM camp - to discuss different aspects of application process and camp info.

Any freshmen applying for the summer 2017 ?
Is it too late if I start the application now ? (understand they have rolling admission - officially they accept applications till June but not sure if they have any seats left by then).

I am a freshman thinking about applying, but I too am not sure if it’s too late.

HCSSiM webmaster here! Applications are open at Apply! - HCSSiM; don’t (by not applying soon) miss your opportunity to take the Interesting Test. There are plenty of spots open, though – as far as I am aware, no invitations have been offered yet.

@ebeihl, thanks for confirming that - good to know that.

Hi ebeihl, do you happen to know when decisions will come out? I know a student who’d really, really love to be admitted . . . the student has been accepted to another summer math program but would strongly prefer HCSSiM . . . is it April 20th since that’s 17 days from April 3? It looks like in past years it was later than that . . . ?

Invitations are sent out on a rolling basis, according to complicated heuristics that I don’t personally understand. The student can send Kelly an email asking him to expedite his decision (and providing justification for that, e.g., competing deadlines). Certainly if you haven’t heard in 17 days, it’s worth prodding.

Thanks much!

We just posted an update on the application process to https://www.facebook.com/HCSSiM/photos/10154946101443880/
Short version: spots still open, but hurry!

Hi! That link doesn’t work . . . ?

Oh! sorry about that. Apparently the forum software censors Facebook URLs. It’s the most recent post on our FB page.

Hello! I applied around April 20-something (which is a bit late), and I saw your post on Facebook about the application update. Will emailing to ask about expediting my decision hurt my chances at all? HCSSiM is definitely my first choice but I have to consider other plans and there are some application deadlines around mid-May.

Also, the post mentioned that apps are especially encouraged from young women and minority students. Will being in any of those categories help an application?
