I guess this change doesn't affect Texas students because of their high school requirements, but it sure affected DS as an out-of-state applicant!

TWO WEEKS ago, high school class requirements were made more stringent. Now 3 1/2 units of social studies are required instead of 3 units, and 1/2 unit of economics is required. Others may have changed, also, but I knew DS was Ok in other areas. The Registrar's website still shows the old requirements. The new ones are on the "Be a Longhorn" website. I talked to admissions and told them this didn't seem fair since senior schedules have already been set, but they just said, "Sorry!" The good news is that he can make up the deficiencies next summer. He could possibly get credit for his missing 1/2 unit of SS because of his 9 years of foreign languages (Spanish and Latin), also.

Theoretically, he could change his schedule for next year, but he really doesn't want to drop Latin or Spanish, so I'm glad he doesn't have to worry about this now. After all, he might not even get accepted to UT!
