It really depends.
Private school included everything up front.(& for $50,000+ what * couldn’t * you include? They did have a few different meal plans)
Single dorm room, clinic visits, ADHD coach, massage therapy… Although, if I remember right, it took D a long time to get diagnosed with mono, and because I was trying not to helicopter, I was letting D determine frequency of communication, and I didn’t hear about her illness until it had wreaked havoc with her schedule.
Public school breaks everything down, because taxpayers don’t like paying for extra that they aren’t using.
However, I thought the clinic at the public university was pretty good.
They wouldn’t bill our insurance, but seemed to be very thorough, and were responsive to email.
Speaking of off campus compare to on campus costs, I read that housing also includes building maintenance fees. At least that was the case at the private school.
Buildings include all campus builds, not just dorms.
Cornell now just started charging each student a $350 health fee. When they go to the health center, it costs $10. Even though we got a waiver for the insurance, we still have to pay the $350.
My other daughter’s private school charges $10-$15 per visit depending on the service. You pay with cash/credit or they can charge your monthly bill.
For at least the private schools I’m personally familiar with, they try hard not to have extra fees, so that the school can be a more even playing field for kids from different SEC backgrounds. So for example, no fees for on-campus concerts, semester-abroads, etc.So everything is built into “one price” (which is of course, high)
@electronblue I agree that the medical staff at the health center are very good and am very grateful for their help. I think I will lay my curiosity to rest especially after reading the numerous fees encountered by @MaterS and others.
One d’s School charged ”tuition and fees" unless you asked for the detailed bill. THEN you could see the breakdown–health fee, technology fee, activity fees. The amount of any additional course fees is listed in the student schedule and does not show up in the detail.
Second d’s school doesn’t show any breakdown at all on the bill, but she got an email this year explainingthe need for the increase in tuition and fees and that document showed some specific fees.
