Hi! Please chance me. I’d like to stay in California for healthcare support. I am independent but like the idea of having my support system somewhat near to maintain care with familiar physicians. My reach includes UCLA for acting. My other intended majors are business/finance, marketing analysis or communications. I like engineering, but likely out of my reach to gain entry. My GPA is on the low side- I suffered some health issues and my academics were affected. Not sure if I should go into that for my essay because it seems weak and hard to relate to and not like the capable strong candidate I feel I am now. I basically took on a lot of responsibility in and out of school and my health suffered and I became depressed.
GPA: UW 3.5; W 3.7;
SAT: 1360
EC’s: Published poetry; Coxswain; Pre-professional ballet awards; Debate; Student Gov’t; Treasurer; Track and Field; Cheer; School Tutor; Clubs. Small summer programs (applied and accepted-no fees required) in Engineering and in Ecnonomics. Acting program this summer. Worked full time last summer.
Honors courses; APs (European History in 10th; CALC AB, US Hist, Psych in 11th and 3 expected in 12th: Stats, Art, Lit)
SDSU; Cal Poly SLO; UCLA; UCSB; UCI; UCR; UCSC; USC; Occidental; Chico State or San Jose State for a safety. Any other suggestions in CA? Any thoughts on Chico State for business? Really want either SDSU for business or UCLA for acting.
What’s your UC GPA? Go to rogerhub to calculate it. GPA is the most important component in UC admissions… It’s worth explaining your health situation IMHO, especially if it was severe enough to influence your academic performance.

You might want to tag @NCalRent whom has a son at Chico state studying business for more info.
Thank you and I will likely touch on my health issues. My UC GPA is 3.61.
SDSU/Chico State and SJSU admit by major and eligibility index.
(CSU/UC GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR) so (3.61 x800)+ (1360)= 4248
That Eligibility index should get you into all three Cal states Business/Finance or Communications but definitely not a guarantee for SDSU which has really up’d the bar this year due to over 85,000 applicants.
For SLO, they use 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation and want to be close to a 4.0 GPA. They also admit by MCA points: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1694769-confused-about-mca-score.html
For the UC’s, GPA is king so with a 3.61 UC GPA most of the UC’s will be tough admits. Explaining your health issues will definitely give you that extra consideration so worth your time to apply.
For Business, you might also want to consider Cal State Fullerton as another safety if you Chico State/SJSU are not to your liking.
Best of luck.
Thank you @Gumbymom! Any suggestions for boosting my chances at SDSU? As far as CSU Fullerton goes, is it regarded for it’s business/finance program (I am unfamiliar with the CSUs and their rankings in specific majors). Thanks!
Your eligibility index is above the average of 4100 for the campus but I saw applicants with 4200+ EI’s being rejected or waitlisted for Business Admin and Finance. Much depends upon the # of applicants for the Business majors and their overall competitiveness. If you can bump up your GPA and/or test scores, then it will definitely help your chances. Being a local in-service area applicant also helps. CSU Fullerton has a very good reputation for their Business majors. You might also want to look at Cal State Long Beach, Chapman University and Loyola Marymount.
