I'm a senior in high school. I've been accepted to Tx State for Health Information Management, and I've been thinking about getting a dual degree in Computer Information Systems, and eventually trying for my master's of HIM in the University of Washington. But today I started thinking about majoring in Computer Science and just becoming a software developer or database administrator, and probably not getting a master's.
What I like about HIM is that it's in the health field so there will always be jobs, and I'll be doing something that could interest me, which is an office job and isn't really stressful; I like that it combines healthcare, business, and IT. Also, my mom is an RN so it could possibly be easier for me to find a job after graduating. On the other hand, I think I would enjoy software development because I get to use my creative side and develop all these different applications, and computer science is a very versatile degree that looks good for a resume.
What I don't like about HIM is that I can't really find any straightforward details about it! I don't know, that after graduating what I'll do with it necessarily. Would I have to start out as a medical billing and coder and work my way up to a managerial position, or????? And what I'm worried about majoring in computer science is that I could possibly be a loner, (as stupid as that sounds) because I'm a girl and I'm guessing there aren't that many girls that take comp. science, and I'll be going to a less nationally recognized university for it, (Tx State) as opposed to UT Austin, which is one of the best for computer science.
Does the prestige of the college matter in the case of finding jobs after graduation? What do you suggest I do?
