Apparently there's a health inspection next week..what does this involve exactly? If I hypothetically happened to have some alcohol in my room would that be a problem? Are they allowed to search through my stuff?

They aren’t allowed to go through your stuff (drawers, shelves, etc) so anything that isn’t visible you can’t technically get in trouble for. Mostly they check for things like candles and leave forms telling you to take out the trash and clean…

Also check for shot glasses, beer can tabs, beer can bottles, ping pong balls, etc. We got in trouble freshman year because there was a ping pong ball on the floor and apparently that gave the RAs all the evidence they needed to raid our room.

You should be OK as long as it’s a “hypothetical” inspection. :)

Or, hypothetically, you could rage this weekend, finish the hypothetical alcohol, and then have nothing for them to find. Win win, I think.

That would, hypothetically, be a good idea. The problem is that the parties that I hypothetically go to usually have hypothetical alcohol at them already, so it would take a lot of hypothetical pregaming to finish all of it.

Also, the potential inspection period starts on Friday, so I wouldn’t be able to hypothetically finish all of it before then unless a LOT of hypothetical pregaming goes on Thursday.

Well thats hypothetically exactly what you should do. I see no other option here. Except for making sure nothing is visible and not worrying since the inspections last about 30 seconds.

Put butterfly chairs away. They’re a fire hazard so if your RA rights you up as having one, they’ll keep coming back until you hide it, which is really annoying if you keep forgetting to.

So if I have a wooden shelf that I’m using as a TV stand, is that a no-no? Should I hide it under my bed or something?

You won’t get in trouble the first couple times. They’ll come to your room and leave you a list of stuff to get rid of (a.k.a. hide) for the next time they come in for inspections. I think they give you a week to make their changes. I wouldn’t hide anything or put anything away because sometimes they miss stuff and if its a big hassle to hide something, its not worth it. The only thing they’ll for sure get you on every time is posters and stuff hanging on the ceiling.

^Thanks for the response!!

Built things are usually fine, but they depend on if your RA/RD is a jerk. I’ve got a bunch of wooden stuff from ikea, and it’s never been a problem. Course this year they also signed us off without a problem despite having a butterfly chair out and fabric attached to the walls with staples (yes, I forgot they were coming).

Trust me; they passed my room off and when they came through I had my guitar amp that I use for some smaller gigs. Plus we’re also using about 20+ electrical outlets right now once you add up all of the extension chords, power strips and extension cables. As for alcohol you should be fine; as long as it’s hidden they can’t go through your stuff like they can’t open up your closet and search for stuff in there unless they have a specific search warrant for your dorm room/suite.
