I'd be interested in opinions on the supplemental health insurance plan. I realize one can opt out of it if one prefers one's existing insurance, but our existing insurance is pretty expensive and the coverage not so great. So I was wondering if anyone had experience with (and was satisfied with) the coverage on the Harvard supplemental plan, particularly in situations where there was a significant medical problem that needed to be addressed.

My student used the supplemental plan to cover expensive tests and procedures from a specialist in the Boston area after a serious sports injury. Also, when a small surgery was needed for another problem, she was referred by HUHS to a top specialist at nearby Mt. Auburn Hospital. The supplemental insurance paid everything. It was worth every penny.

My daughter went to the ER at Mt. Auburn Hospital for treatment. We never received a bill as the supplemental insurance paid everything. It was worth every penny. Also it covers my daughter over the summer while she is abroad which our own insurance won’t do (as long as child enrolled in the fall).
