Do students have to have a health insurance(school or not) and pay it?
Get medical care on campus without insurance?

Officially you are supposed to get health insurance either through UCLA(SHIP) or your own provider. That said I’m not sure if UCLA checks the validity of the insurance information you give them if you choose to waive SHIP.

As a registered student without SHIP you can still go the local Ashe center with a small co-pay($15 for a standard check-up for example). If you have more questions look at the UCLA student health page below

Yes, you are required to have health insurance as a student. You are automatically signed up for the school insurance. You can only opt out of the school insurance if you have your own insurance.
As explained above, if you are a registered student, you can’t “not have insurance”, so this is generally a meaningless question. The Ashe Center on campus will only see you if you are a registered student, or if you are not registered (e.g. graduated or taking leave) but were registered the previous term. In the latter case (which is very rare for people to use), you could technically not have insurance, in which case you pay the full cost yourself, which is pretty expensive.
