Health Insurance Waiver for Current Students

Just a reminder to parents of current students that you can complete the health insurance waiver as of today, June 1st if your child already has health coverage. Wake has billed each student $710 as a health insurance premium. In order to have this removed from the student account you have to complete the waiver form if your child is covered under another insurance plan.
There seems to be some trouble with the site and so I had to call the number for student insurance at Wake and have the waiver emailed to me. They are aware of the problem (you can normally just follow the links on the site and complete the waiver). I believe you have until August 29th to complete the form.

Thanks, irishmary.

Did the same thing today - called and had them e-mail the link to me - it took just a few seconds to complete the waiver form and I instantly rcvd an e-mail confirmation. Bill should be revised within a few days.

Got my e-mail confirmation as well  My mom did it for me but if it is any help I believe the site is working again; might have receiving a lot of traffic!

I saw the $710 credit on the bill yesterday - so it is updated very quickly.

I’m a little lost. Where did yall get the bill? I mean is it online?

The bill is on WIN. You just go to your DEAC account and you can see all the account activity, charges, payments etc. If you are an incoming freshman, I can’t remember when you set up your WIN account. You may not have access to it yet but you have until Aug 29th to complete the waiver form so this might be something that is done at orientation. Since tuition for the fall is due Aug 1, I suspect that you will receive something in the mail from Wake about the student health insurance plan. Here is a link to the info on Wake’s website including instructions on how to either enroll or waive the plan:
[WFU | Student Insurance Program](http://www.wfu.edu/sip/verification.php)

Here is the link for Student Financial Services to create your “Deac” account and view your bill.

[WFU | Student Financial Services | DEAC](<a href=“Deacon Electronic Account Center (DEAC) - Financial Services”>Deacon Electronic Account Center (DEAC) - Financial Services)

You set up an account here - view the bill - and pay it electronically. Just like paying any other bill on-line - you designate your checking account info and the money is deducted from there.

Besides paying the fall bill - you also have a reloadable Deacon Card - which you use on campus for extra meals, snacks, book store purchases, etc. It functions like a debit card. You load a few hundred dollars on there to start the semester - reload it as needed.

If I use the checking account option, will the debit occur all at once on Aug 1? Or do I have the option to pay installments throughout the semester.

(Last year we used the credit card payment system, for reasons I don’t recall. This year I want to avoid that interest and fee.)

If you pay by electronic deduction from your checking account - it must all be paid by August 1 - but you can break it up - pay some now - some in early July - final payment by August 1. Just go to the tab that says make payment - indicate the amount you want to pay - be sure it says for Fall 2011.

There is also a monthly payment plan:

<a href=“Student Financial Services - Financial Services”>Student Financial Services - Financial Services;

You have until July 7 to sign up for this option. It costs $125 per semester and you have to set it up each semester. I have not used this - but it looks interesting.

irishmary,
Thanks for the link to the health insurance waiver. Just checked the bill and yes, they had automatically charged the $710 so I just used your link to the opt out form. I really appreciate this advice and the link made it really easy to do. I’ll keep an eye on the bill to see if they remove it before the August deadline. :-)

You’re Welcome! Glad that my post was helpful. You should see a credit in a few days.
