Any tips for getting health insurance for college students? After our COBRA coverage expires, our daughters will need coverage, even if my husband and I choose to go without (likely, given our finances). Thank you.

A lot of times the college offers student health insurance. I know mine does that is required for athletes and optional for everyone else.

State law for the state i’m in requires health insurance for all college students, because of this my school automatically charges you for health insurance as apart of tuition. In fact, they won’t even let you register for classes if you don’t insurance. You can get the fee waived if you have private insurance that is comparable to the school’s insurance.

According to my mom though, who works in health care, the school’s plan is pretty good. Its also much cheaper than what my parents were paying for my insurance, since they are both self employed. My school charges around $1400. Its active for a year.

See if your daughters school is on this list, [University Health Plans, Inc.](http://www.universityhealthplans.com/)
