Health issues seriously hindering professional goals

I'm 21, enrolled at one of the best colleges in Europe, but...

I had a bizarre accident a year ago, which somehow blocked my overall growth... probably both as a person and in terms of professional/career-goals.

I often had to go to hospital for emergency situations right before the final exams so I often didn't do them well, which obviously decreased my average.
(I got 100% in some and 50% in others...)

I was also a bit depressed or anxious due to the chronic pain, I don't know. I didn't live life to the fullest, I didn't go out with friends.
And at the same time I didn't speak much with professors, attended few classes and studied at home most of the time.

Now I'm starting to get better, both physically and psychologically.

But I have only one year left before I graduate, and my GPA is among the lowest in my class.

I used to have clear professional goals, but due to this year of almost complete inactivity, I didn't do any internship and my professional contacts have diminished. So I don't know whether my ambition alone will help me.

So, I'm kind of screwed.

My questions are:
1) How can I compensate for my low GPA?
2) Would good working experience enable me to get into a good MBA program? If yes, where could I start looking for an internship with my low GPA?
Or would a year of full-time work experience be better?

You should have several years of fulltime experience prior to business school (at least for US Universities).

To compensate for low GPA, score high on GMAT and explain the problems in an essay.
