Health Services/Insurance

I'm a little confused about Oberlin health services and insurance.

Do students pay for (or use insurance for) all services at the Oberlin Student Health Center or are some services free to all students (regardless of whether they have insurance or not)?

Does the Oberlin Student Health Center take health insurance other than the Student Health Insurance Plan?

Yes I am definitely confused. I called Oberlin Student Health but they are out for the summer. I called the Student Health Insurance Plan but they only know what's on Oberlin's website.

My son is on our family plan (Aetna) and I'm trying to figure out if there's any reason why he also needs the student health insurance.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oberlin requires that all students have health insurance. The student health insurance plan is coverage (at a reasonable cost) for students who would not otherwise have insurance. My d. is covered through our family plan, so I waived the student health plan–no need to pay twice! Your student can visit the student health center no matter where s/he insured. But if a student needed to see a specialist or go to the hospital, etc, s/he would need insurance.

I have the same questions. Does anyone know if the Oberlin student health services has a contract with Blue Cross, Blue Shield?

Services provided at student health services are covered for all students:

[Oberlin College | Student Health Services](http://new.oberlin.edu/office/student-health-services/)

If your student needs to be referred elsewhere, you or your health insurance would be responsible.

Thanks bgs for this information!
