Healthy, Light Dinner Fare in Middlebury

Hi. Long time lurker. Finally decided to take the plunge.
We are taking our junior to visit Middlebury in the coming weeks. Any suggestions for dinner - we'd prefer light, healthy fare.
Thanks.

Go down the road to Brandon, Vermont (20 minutes) and enjoy the fare at Cafe Provence. Worth the trip!

Thanks for the suggestion.

My favorites in Middlebury are Storm Cafe (great seasonal and local fare), Jackson’s on the River. Otter Creek Bakery has delicious breakfast items. For lunch, try Sama’s Cafe/Middlebury Market (brick oven goodies). In east Middlebury, try the Waybury Inn (made famous by Bob Newhart show). If you head to Bristol - try Bobcat Cafe or Vergennes- Black Sheep Bistro.

Enjoy your visit to Middlebury - their dining halls are very good also.
Hope this helps with food.

No, go to American Flatbread at the Marbleworks in town-all local , fabulous pizza with interesting or traditionaltoppings-we like the one with feta, tomato, basil and olive, or the vermont sausage, mushroom, fennel, and carmelized onions. The house salad with that light sesame vinaigrette is to die for. No need to drive and I wouldn’t trust anyone called DQ dad…
Unfortunately, Flatbread is not open for lunch. We go to Rosies and get omelets, but “light” isn’t really the word.
Or to Otter Creek bakery and get scrumptious sandwiches-house made pate, arugula, onion, cornichons and mustard is my fave.
I like healthy and local, but a vegan I am not…

I disagree Oldbatesie, I do think Cafe Provence is worth the drive, but maybe it is a tad far during a visit. We actually had to stay in Brandon when we first took S to school as a freshman and really enjoyed that little town.

But another really great spot, much closer and perhaps providing the prefect ambiance to reflect just how great Midd is, head to Tourterlle, about 5 miles north on Rt 7 from Midd.

PS… OMG…I just read thru the reviews linked above and am more than a little surprised to see a previous post by me on this subject quoted! Seriously… slightly weirded out, but all true none the less. Great spot.

haha poor DQ dad

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Sorry we won’t be in Middlebury long enough to try them all.

I also think the Storm Cafe is great for local, fresh, unique meal. I also love the Otter Creek bakery. The cinnamon twists are my favorite. We like the Two Brothers tavern too which is next to the bakery for lunch or dinner. More american pub type food. The sandwiches at Noonies are great which is next to American flat bread. Check out [Middkid, Middlebury College, Middlebury VT](http://www.middkid.com) and tripadvisor.com for other suggestions. We always enjoy visiting our daughter there. My daughter recently told us about Rosie’s diner on Rte 7. Have not yet tried all of the restaurants. We always stay at the Courtyard Marriott. Very convenient. On our way up to Middlebury thru NY, we try to stop at the Log Jam restaurant in Lake George for a steak house with great salad bar, about 1.5 hours from Middlebury. Have fun.

OBD, you sting like a Bee. (PS: I KNOW you trust me!)
