Hear much from your recently relocated student?

I really did not know what to expect from S. While he loved the programs and opportunities that his college offers from the beginning, I sensed that he was nervous about making good connections with other kids. He really didn’t “feel it” at visits and orientation. But because of an incredible scholarship package, we forged ahead.

Now that he’s there he seems to love it. He’s become close with his roommate and has found an EC with a tight-night group of kids. And while I haven’t dared to “friend” him on Facebook I can still see that he’s already added about 20 or so friends from college. His calls, emails and texts were more frequent at first but now are much more infrequent. However, when he is in contact I feel like our relationship is better than it ever has been. While living here he was resentful of my “interference” in his life. Now that he’s in control of the contact (I don’t call. I wait for him) he seems happy to talk and occasionally asks for advice.

Now you are just being silly…
D never landed on the pavement…we aimed for the grass verge and she made it easily.
Besides, her luggage cushioned her landing.

I’ve heard from ds pretty regularly since we moved him in two weeks ago. As much as I’d like? Probably not. But he was never Mr. Effusive, so why would he change now? He said he’d call the night we dropped him off. He didn’t. He did call the next morning, and it was the most forced, boring call ever. The next day, he called and chatted and chatted for almost an hour. It was incredible! And wonderful.

Since then, it’s been interesting. Days and days when we hear with nothing, then sometimes he’ll call twice a day two days in a row. He calls when he needs advice or just wants to ask something silly. When he calls twice a day it’s to ask advice and then calls to let us know the advice was good. :)

We’ve settled into a predictable routine of Skyping with d as she is settling down for the night. Thank goodness she went east rather than west - the time difference works to our advantage. ;)
