Has anyone who accepted their appointment heard anything from the academy? My son has started turning down acceptances from other schools. We haven't heard anything from the academy since he accepted the appointment back in February. The other schools that have accepted him call and write almost weekly so the silence from the academy makes us feel like they have forgotten about him. I keep worrying that maybe this was all a dream. I am still struggling with the ethics of accepting a spot at a school when he has already accepted his USNA appointment. I understand that it is insurance but it still seems cruel to take a spot away from a student who really wants it in order to protect my son. Is the permit to report package really the first we will hear from the academy?

doglover1585:

I read on the USNA website that the permission to report packets were being sent out this week.

Son received Appointment today. His vision was waived.

Sent out my intent letter on Monday, hopefully will receive something soon.

parent0110 how did you find that out?

I got my permit to report last week. I sent in my acceptance in March.

gopherkitty:

I read it on a web page. Refer to this link.

My son was waitlisted last year and was rejected in June, a week before graduation. He applied again for this year as soon as he found out he was waitlisted. Still QQQ with nomination, and we wait. Anyone have a similiar situation?

My son is triple Q'd with a nomination too - no word yet. How do you know you son is waitlisted? We have heard nothing.

He was notified by letter late March of last year

But have you heard anything this year about being waitlisted?

Nothing yet for this year. The wait is awful. So we have to continue with his college arrangements.

We just heard yesterday (4/12). My son was rejected. At least if you're still waiting, it could be a good sign. Has anybody gotten a rejection (which also stated that NAPS was not an option) and now you are investigation the Foundation?

Mommahempen:
With Foundation, you have to be sponsored in order for the Naval Academy to give you the (almost) automatic for the following year. Of course, many of the foundation schools will take you as an independent and you can reapply the following year. Don't know how it would look to the admissions dept except they would see you as very dedicated: But moreso than going to regular college and reapplying? Whose to say? If you want that consideration, however, I would call admissions and ask about it. Can't hurt.
