Hearing about Financial Aid?

MiPerson-I hope that you and your student can find some happiness with the college choice. As I’ve said all along–it is a personal decision that needs to be made with finances considered among other things. As far as the subsidy that full-payers make to those receiving financial aid, this is occurring at all colleges. I have always thought that a college could never accept a class full of students that all need financial aid; there have to be some full payers in the group. It seems that in these economic times, it has indeed become more apparent that this is happening–even tho 3 years ago when our student was applying and the economy was booming, this idea was dismissed by several on this CC forum. As far as alumni and jobs, I firmly believe that our student has been fortunate enough so far to have been hired because of the ND connection-not entirely, as I know that grades and job experiences have perhaps boosted the resume appeal to prospective employers. I do believe that the pending internship this summer has been because of the ND connection with the company. And yes, there are a lot of graduating students w/o employment but I also think that you will find this scenario at most colleges across the country. It is a sign of the times, not just ND. Good Luck to you and esp your student-I only hope that he/she will be challenged and successful at the college of choice.

s was accepted EA and received his FA last week. ND was actually very generous. They met all of our need with scholarship $ except a very small stafford loan. I feel they stayed true to their statement of meeting high merit students need with scholarship money. He just today decided to accept their offer. He really feels it is the best match for him so we are thrilled. We keep hearing about the great alumni network and hope it is true but we know life success is usually self made. As the saying goes “college is a match to be made not a prize to be won” Good luck to all of you as you make this decision. WE ARE DONE! (and it feels great!)

heels82, congratulations to your S on his decision. A wonderful feeling, I know, when the decision is made and it feels right to him and you. Welcome to Notre Dame!

the conclusion to the college admission process is probably the best day of senior year. Congratulations on your son’s decisions, I will also be attending and cannot wait to start.

Go Irish!

got my FA award today…pretty good

Because there was a big change to my family’s income towards the end of last year, our taxes showed that we were middle class, however this is not the case anymore. ND sent me a “estimated income for 2009” worksheet (received on April 2) and my family faxed it back on April 3 (Friday).

I was accepted EA but still have not recieved my financial aid package. Should I call this week and ask when I should be expecting it?

I would call. Im officially going Im so excited!! Its a dream come true and the financial aid package was really helpful
