I'm very curious as to how this works. If I send in my application to a school that has early action deadline (ie- dec 1), but I submit it October 1, would I be hearing back from them sooner? I really want to get in schools early and focus more of my energy towards scholarships.

Thanks! :)

If a school has EA or ED, you will hear on a set date - often from the second week to third week of Dec. Some schools have rolling admission, and you would hear as soon as adcom makes the decision.

Do US students receive envelopes if they get admitted? I live in Europe, will they respond with an email to me then?

Some schools have oneline notification and some schools send out emails, which means all students would get notified at the same time. There are a handful of schools which only notify via mail, and sometimes they will send express mail to international students.
