Okay, so sorry you had to read that mess. Here is my list: Can you tell me what my chances are at these schools?

Columbia (mom went undergrad and grad)
Boston University
NYU
Colgate
Tufts (uncle went, dunno if that helps)
UVA
USC
Sarah Lawrence College
Skidmore

Sorry about the rejection - heck of a holiday present.

I think that you may have issue with UVA - they are pretty grades-happy even for instate applicants.

Columbia is a pretty big reach - how about Barnard instead?

Sarah Lawrence, Skidmore, BU and NYU - - I think you will be in at least at 3 out of the 4. It doesn't look like you need finaid, so that will help. Great riding ops around Skidmore.

Colgate, Tufts, USC are reachier but reasonable to apply to.

with legacy, you might get into columbia

I'm not sure, but I think she's lying... Don't early decisions for Cornell come out on the 15th???

they were leaked...

yeah, so i get to suffer 3 days early...

hugs =( i got rejected from my ED just today as well, so i sympathize, especially with the heartbroken-ness =/ if you're really set on it, you might want to try transferring from wherever you do end up going.
you have really impressive EC's.. i went to oxford too =) and i dont see why you shouldn't have any trouble getting into any of those schools.. you have better chances than me anyhow!

rachel -

a suggestion if your haven't submitted the rest of your apps yet. You may want to prioritize the equestrian activities so that this one is at the top:

Trained EMTs, Firemen, and Police officers in Equine Rescue Techniques. Got certified in 9th grade, now help to certify these EMTs Firemen and Policemen. - 9th,10th,12th

Adreps will understand that - they won't necessarilly understand the ramifications of being the youngest whip (although it is impressive also!).

did you apply to CAS...?
CAS acceptance rate is under 20%, its probably the hardest school within cornell, and arguably harder to get in than other IVY's

if your still set on cornell as a transfer, you may want to apply to agriculture or human ecology... spend a semester- and then internally transfer, i mean internal transfers i hear are really easy

it might be a little shady thing to do, but who really cares in the end

but yeah , you have a great shot at all those schools...

thanks everyone. yeah I applied to CAS.
anoniez, sorry about your rejection :(

anybody else have an opinion?

"did you apply to CAS...?
CAS acceptance rate is under 20%, its probably the hardest school within cornell, and arguably harder to get in than other IVY's"

HAH...
Completely wrong.
CAS is around low 30's and is not even close to being as tough as the IVY's.

You have a good shot at CAS.

human ecology / agriculture is easier to get into

the CAS acceptance rate is 21.7%, no where near your low 30's...
http://dpb.cornell.edu/irp/pdf/FactBook/Admissions/Undergraduate/Freshmen/as.pdf

so HAH... completely wrong ch

Why did you skip 8th grade? That is an interesting decision.

Columbia: SAT 25%ile verbal 660, math 670, ACT 25%ile 28, avg GPA 3.8, 86% from top 10%

BU: SAT V 600, math 610, GPA 3.5,

I think you are in at Sarah Lawrence and Skidmore, even with legacy, Columbia would be a reach. Uncle won't help you at Tufts unless he's famous. I would consider Barnard, if I were you. You also have a chance at NYU--don't know about the others. Good Luck!

wow, shocked u got rejected. UR stuff looked solid, but your math for Arts/Sciences was below average, by about a good 50 points, but your vebral was solid. Make sure your Recs and Essays are good, b/c sometimes a rejection ED can signal that something wasn't good, call Cornell up and find out what they didn't like.

will Cornell tell me? Or will they just be like, psh... we rejected 299 people, why should we tell you why.

im kinda shocked too, bball. an admissions officer told me i had a good chance of getting in (1 in 4) but I guess that 3 in 4 is better odds.

andrw: i skipped 8th grade because I had taken Algebra in 7th grade and an independent math study, and I had also taken Earth Science in 7th grade and worked at cold spring harbor labs. So the school decided that, if I take the math and science finals and pass, I could skip a grade.

well, i have a friend who was rejected at Columbia, called up, and it was revealed that his SAT verbal was significantly lower than what they wanted. He retook his SATs after that conversation. I have another friend that was told that one of his recs was absolutely awful.

if you call cornell theyll tell you why you didnt get in
if its something stupid then u can hit yourself on the head ;(
