<p>Do remember that the kid with a lower GPA, may have activities outside school you don’t know about, or they may have written a brilliant essay.</p>
<p>I talked to the college counselor today gave great insight, so that might help you. Won’t change things but to have some answer is better than wondering.</p>

This can be tough, as we also found. For my son, the primary safety he chose was Pitt, where he was pretty sure he would get merit aid. If he had not gotten into one of his top choices, he would have had the consolation of going to school for a lot less money.</p>
<p>In addition to the top 10% crap in Texas, I noticed that UT-Austin has only a 4% OOS acceptance rate. My son applied OOS for UT and his profile was way above most of the students accepted, but he was OOS and got rejected, even though he’s a legacy. (Hahaha, no more Texas Exes donations for me!)</p>
