Heavyweight Rower

I've decided to go heavyweight and drop my 2k time significantly. My current 2k is 6:50.3. I'm very confident that I can drop at least 10 seconds this winter. What are some good schools that I should consider if I want to be recruited with a 6:35-40 2k? I need to begin my college search and narrow down my options. Thank you very much for your time and thought.

I am not sure if I will be much help…We are new to this process, as our son is in your position now. He is a 168lb junior with a current 2K of 6:40. If you haven’t done so, you may want to create a profile on the “berecruited” website. Also, if you look at the “Sparks rowing college database”, you can filter schools by rowing program (Division 1,2,3, etc.) and start making a list. Check out those college crew rosters. Some of the Freshmen rowers may have public 2K results (eg. from the Crash- B results.) That might give you a place to start. Of course, you may try to email the coaches directly and ask about 2K goals. From reading old posts on this topic, it does appear that the Ivy’s are looking for heavyweights in the 6:20’s, but I am not sure about other D 1’s or D 3’s. We are starting to fill out recruiting questionnaires on the college crew websites, and have followed up with emails to coaches, but have received minimal feedback at this point. Good luck to you!

Thank you for the advice. I have a Berecruited profile and I’ve filled out several recruiting questionnaires for various programs. I’m 170 pounds and 6 feet tall. I have a 4.3 GPA. In your opinion, what’s the minimum 2k time for an Ivy League recruit? Thanks.

What is your unweighted GPA and what did you score on the ACT/SAT?

I scored a 2030 on the SAT. I’ve never received anything below an A, so I assume my unweighted GPA is a 4.0

My son’s team mate has heard from the Penn heavyweight coach that this year’s "average recruit " had 700 on all three parts of the SAT, a 3.5 GPA and a 2K of 6:25.
