I have a few connections with people in hedge funds - would it be smart to go for internships in hedge funds before I were to try and get an internship at an investment bank? Also career wise, would it be good to go straight to hedge funds or the experience at an investment bank is too valuable to basically "skip" that step? Thanks

Assuming you are a Sophmore, take it as long as it's front office type.

I'm a freshman, I didn't plan on taking an internship this year however if I was able to get an internship this year should I or it's really something that should be held off till sophomore year? thanks again

Definately take it. In the current market, any decent internship freshman or sophmore year speaks volumes. It will go a long way towards getting a banking internship in the future.

should i be looking for the internship to be throughout the year or during the summer?

Doesn't really matter. Don't know how big your hedge fund is, but summer interns are generally more competitive and if you stick out there, all the better. If you don't think you'll be that great, well, you have the whole school year on the other hand...
