Heifetz International Music Institute?

Does anyone know about the Heifetz International Music Institute? - The deadline is passed, but seems like there're still opening. I don't want to apply and waste the application fee before I know anything about it. If anyone know/attended this summer program, please tell me a little bit more about it.

Thanks!

My son attended last summer and is returning this summer. He liked it quite a bit. The level is quite high. There is emphasis on chamber music. Mr. Heifetz also wants to students to develop other parts of themselves besides their music sides so there are movement and acting classes that all students must participate in as well. There are also many performance opportunities. I think my son soloed 2 or 3 times during the 6 week program and his chamber group performed at least once. They are getting a lot of big name folks through there this summer as well.

The camp itself is on the grounds of a boarding high school on the edge of a lake. The town is very picturesque New Hampshire and gets quite a few tourists. Son says they went swimming almost every day in the lake. He also played quite a bit of ultimate. He had no difficulty making the decision to go back, especially after seeing the teachers who are coming through.

My daughter is a graduating high school senior. She wants to major in vocal performance (soprano), but also receive a strong liberal arts education. She has been accepted to the vocal performance programs at several schools. She has narrowed her choice to 3 schools: Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin), University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida), and Vanderbilt (Nashville, Tennessee). I would appreciate any advice from experienced CC subscribers regarding the advantages or disadvantages; strengths or weaknesses; or first-hand knowledge or experience of any of the programs or voice faculty at these three schools.

Thanks.

Firstimer,

I would suggest that you start a new thread for this question. It may not get noticed here. You need to go back up a level to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=604 and click on the "New Thread" button.

Thanks for the tip, Bassdad. I have started a new thread as you suggested.

Shennie: thanks for your info. I emailed the director for openings, hoping that they still have some for piano!
