Height in the college.

Hi, I will be applying to colleges this fall. I'm,16 an Asian and only I'm 173 cm tall that is only 5.6 feet. Is it ok for me or Will I look short in the US?

You will be fine in the U.S.! You will be taller than the average women but will be a little shorter than some men. Don’t worry about height! Also, you are only sixteen meaning that you could still grow taller.

How much is the average height for a boy in the US?

The average height for a 16-year-old male in the US is about 5’8" At 5’6" you’re within the middle 50%. Don’t worry about it! :slight_smile:

Oh Thanks @EllieMom I am now feeling really cool ! :)

I’m 17 and 5’10" and I’m from India as well. :smiley:

My older son is twenty and only 5’1" and hoping to grow. Boys can grow well into their twenties. It does not help that both myself and his Dad are on the short side. Believe me their are worse problems in life than being short.

@halamadrid9 Perhaps I would grow this year. :slight_smile: Hopes are always there.
@Gumbymom Agree with you!

On the other hand, will being 6’5" (pending any further growth) be a nuisance at college?

I doubt it.
Many people (specially those interested in basketball) would love to be at least that.

For what it’s worth, my brother was a squirt in high school. The kind of kid that parents would wring their hands over nowadays…then something crazy happened when he started college…he started growing! It was nuts. he’s 6’2 now and even though it’s been decades, everybody still laughs over the old pictures of me towering over him.
