I’m a sophomore in high school and I am about to start my second year of rowing. I am 6’2" and my erg score is 6:35. I have heard that some Ivy League Schools feel that if you can pull the erg score, your height doesn’t matter. And others have a minimum height to recruit. Does anyone know which schools have a height requirements for heavyweights and which don’t. Also what are the general erg scores needed to be recruited at different Ivy’s.
You can find this all on the internet by googling rowing, college rowing recruiting etc: Height matters: big difference between 5;11" and 6’2". Even 6 2" is slightly on the short side for a recruit. Review the rosters of the D1/Ivy teams and many list heights. Erg score for a top recruit is pretty much below 6:!5. As a lower tier recruit you still need to be sub 6:25 for any top program. There are no hard numbers. For example: If you are 6;6" and still developing physically, you can probably get away with a slower erg. If you are a top student and have a 6:30 you may be a good AI recruit. Read the rowing thread of 2017 that someone else referred you too for additional information. You will often see kids on rosters that are there strictly for their academics too-and they may never be in a race. Just like any other sport. View Erg as similar to an SAT. It is a hard metric by which power is assessed. You should also make sure your erg test is verified.
Thank you Center. What sort of verification is needed? Our club uses ergs that haven’t been updated to the software that gives and actual verification code with an erg test. Other kids that have gone through our program have been able to just use coach verification for erg tests. Is this usually ok or should I video my future erg tests?
technically verification is a race or electronic verification. I can’t asnwer your question. Ask your coach??
Maybe results from a race like the Crash-B’s?
