Heiko Jacobsen or James Donahue? Chem II

Information is readily available for Heiko Jacobsen. He is teaching Chem I now. James Donahue and Heiko Jacobsen are slated to teach Chem II spring semester. They both grade on a big curve. I believe Jacobsen has 4 test and drops the lowest score. Does anyone know any particulars about James Donahue? Ratemyprofessor.com shows Donahue to be the better teacher but slightly harder.

are you still posting Tulane14. I think you may know the answer to this question

Hey there, I still poke around occasionally :)

I took Koplitz 2nd semester, who isn’t teaching this year :frowning: From what i’ve heard Donahue gives tests that are more conceptual and involve writing/essays instead of actual math-type problems. I also remember his averages being crazy-low (like 30s/40s) and people complaining about it. I’m sure the class was heavily curved, but still…no one wants to see that they made a 57 on a test or whatever. I can’t comment much on his actual teaching abilities.

Feel free to PM me with more specific questions or if you need more help with your schedule!

thanks for responding. the choices are Heiko Jacobsen, James Donahue and Michael Herman. Michael Herman is rated very poorly on ratemyprofessor.com. That leaves Jacobsen. Do you recommend Jacobsen over Donahue?

I don’t know much about Donahue, but I can say that Jacobsen is a really nice guy. If you are more of a self-studier, take Jacbosen. If you need a teacher who explains concepts well, then take Donahue. With either teacher the class is going to be hard and heavily curved. It’s a pre-med weed-out class.

thanks much
