I also got an email saying that I am a TGEN Finalist. I haven’t gotten any phone call or email regarding the interview either.

Does anybody know of anyone who’s received a follow up on a potential interview?

NicolasCage- nope nothing…there’s another person from my school who hasn’t been contacted either. I’ve kida given up hope though, they’ve had the applications for 2 weeks now, I would think they would have called to set up an interiew already. There’s only another two weeks left and I doubt they’ll call at the last minute:(

I have a friend whose father used to be active in the internship selection committee and he said TGen is most interested in high schoolers who have knowledge of computer programming first. Too bad I don’t possess that knowledge!

WHAT. yup, I definitely don’t know a thing about computer programming either.
It’s kind of a disappointment not to even have a chance to be interviewed…Do you think they might not even have started interviewing yet?? I wish I’d taken a computer programming class now haha.

@invisiblemonster. i came across your username when I was looking through the harvard admissions decisions this year. It’s beyond me how someone with amazing, harvard-level stats didn’t immediately get interviewed and accepted. You are obviously super smart. How does that even happen?!?!?!?! what in the world does TGen want?! that’s frustrating. As I’m nowhere near the stats you posted, I think I can consider myself rejected from TGen.
Also, congrats on your admission:) that’s amazing. harvard, wow.

i had taken two computer programming classes when I applied last year and I was still rejected. I doubt they look too much into that.

oh, i’m so nervous!
we have to be interviewed by the 15th which is SOON.
i really want this internship!

@littlemissmeera- me too! I’ve been waiting to apply to this program since last sumemer!

me too!
last year, i contacted Tgen and was told that I was three weeks too young to work in the labs. now i’m finally old enough!
crosses fingers
I really hope that I get in!

Well good luck:) have you been contacted for an interview??

nope!
so i’m worried.
have you?

6 days left. Let’s hope TGen is not as professional as I would think and contact someone the last minute.

Yes, please.
Or maybe, this year, they decided to just accept everyone instead of doing interviews.
That’s cool with me too.

unfortunately i think the selection process is marred by a great deal of nepotism…the ONLY people I know of to have been accepted have had parents with connections to the lab, or just extremely wealthy with connections in general (think Phx Country Day School and the like).

It’s just too bad that they market this program as an open opportunity for all students, emphasizing their desire to increase diversity…blah blah blah. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time. I find it hard to believe that not ONE of the posters on this CC page has even been contacted for an interview. Why get kids’ hopes up by telling them they are finalists, then make them wait until the end of the academic year to find out about imminent rejection?

Don’t take this personally guys! Take it from an ivy leaguer-you DON’T need lab experience in high school to get into a good school. Although it doesn’t surprise me that many of my pre-med friends have done research, considering the ivy league demographic…Universities understand that high school research is a function of opportunity and not ambition. Sometimes the awards that kids will win for their “ground-breaking research” just baffles me…do selection committees actually believe that these kids just woke up one day with these amazing ideas and projects?

Do all labs interview applicants or do only some labs do that? Like is it still possible to get the internship if they didn’t interview you? :)

@ littlemissmeera- yes I actually did get contacted for an interview
@nicolascage- you should call tgen and ask them! Maybe they do?
good luck to both of you!

^^Congrats! Do you mind me asking you when you were contacted?

Has anyone heard of people being accepted to the Helios Scholars Program without an interview?

Let’s hope
