Davis rejected me but forget them I didn't even wanna go there

WOOTS BERKELEY!!

Oh yeah inspiration for those of you who feel really bad about applications. I thought I wasn't going to get into anywhere. I thought I was going to community college but this came out of nowhere an unexpected gesture casted upon me to make me feel unbelievably better. I thought my life was going to die. I thought I would have to succumb to going to community college, something I frowned upon for my entire life since my family always cherished such a high esteem for me and I thought I would let them down. But this comes out, my number 1 college and I get in. I feel great. Pull through guys. Pull through.

I don’t want to post my stats, I know I will get a “You don’t deserve to go there.” But I’m in state and my Personal Statement helped tremendously.

3.5 GPA, 1950 SAT with 760/540/560 (or something, I forgot haha) SAT II’s, crappy class ranking, an academically weak schedule (very very weak), two 5s and one 4 on AP exams, incredible essays, and stronger extracurriculars than everybody I’ve ever met … not to brag or anything, 'cause everything else about me sucks. Haha. Oh and I also got the Supplemental Freshman Questionnaire thing.

I’m so f’ing excited. This was my dream school.

CONGRATS!! congrats!!!
I’m a little jealous!!! and pretty sad…
sucks to be an out of state student… that’s also an international student!!!
They only accepted 10% out of state and international this year!
I guess that just blew away my chances!!!

… kinda mad that my dad did not want to move to Cali when he got a job there…

Really ur life is over if u go to community college? Lol, yea I bet all the people who transfer from CC with NO debt are crying all the way to Berkeley. Nothing wrong with transfering, saved me 50 g’s.

^ Wow, bitter much? This thread is OLD…and yeah, there are lucky, scholarship-grubby low-income students who get out of Berkeley with no debt. My AP Calc teacher in high school did just that…a smart and cynical guy. I hated his stupid drug jokes (though that wasn’t the point of my post haha).

There’s nothing wrong with saving some bucks and transferring in, you might’ve missed some of the experience though. As a junior transfer, you were never a stupid, confused freshman at Cal.

Old thread, sure, but considering that the spring admits are coming soon, I think this thread has some value.

Before all of you feel embarrassed about your stats, I’d have to say this: one of the things I like best about Berkeley is the diversity of students.

The adcom admits people who are likely to succeed, and that includes not just those who have the numbers, but also those with a wide range of interests, hard-working people who can pass the classes, and those that just simply make the campus more interesting.

I know of very many cool people here that were spring admits, as well as many who were CC transfers that graduated HS with a 2.7. And, they fit right into the campus community, just as well as those who got in the standard route.

Thing is, nobody judges you based on your grades, etc. This is more true when it comes to high school status. They’re just good conversation topics with close friends and not much more than that.

if you worked hard enough to get into berkeley, I don’t see how it’s hard to survive when you get there. Especially for transfer students who are a bit older and been through the party phase.

From looking at the general population of Berkeley I don’t think an excess of partying and not enough studying is what makes it hard. Berkeley is just plain hard. Unless you go to Diablo, Questa or other top CC than you’re gonna find Berkeley hard. I’ve taken CC class and a lot of people I know who take classes at other CCs around California all agree that CC class for the most part are easy and a joke compared to Berkeley. I actually find CC classes easier than High school classes.

The thing with Berkeley is that a significant majority of its student enroll from lackluster high schools. If you have a 3.5 from a top 5% high school, you’ll find Berkeley a breeze, especially if you achieved your grades primarily from test achievement rather than homework completion.

omg seriously? i think it’s only easy once you get in for private/ivy league schools. berkeley is way harder than high school and the competition makes you want to want to run away and be a hermit. it’s the amazing people and campus life, as well as the motivation that you are getting an amazing education, that make berkeley worth while. not comparable to CC classes! or other colleges for the matter…

you don’t think berkeley is hard? well you haven’t been taking any weeder classes, obviously. actually, try taking 3 of them your first semester. then let’s hear your response.

It depends what major you’re in, and how prepared you were from community college. The nice thing is there are plenty of majors that have high survival rates. But I know plenty of people from community college who’re underprepared to do a major like math here without feeling like they’re sinking.
