I am currently in third year of engineering in biotechnology in Delhi college of engineering.I want to switch my career to medicine as i think engineering or entering the corporate world is not my cup of tea.
Should i sit for medical entrances in india and join a medical college? Is it too late?will i be able to adjust to medical college being three years elder to the rest of the class?
Will i be an putcast?
should i take this chance or should i continue doing engineering and leave everything to God?
PLEASE REPLY AND GIVE ME PROPER GUIDANCE.
People in india don't frequently change careers.

Hey!
I don’t want to sound very pessimistic but I believe it is virtually impossible for you to change careers right now.
The AIPMT has an eligibility age of 19 years and you would be around 21 I guess. However, there is a provision for ST candidates- they can appear till the age of 25.
Assuming you can appear for the AIPMT- the competition is very severe and you are going to have to brush up on your high school PCB and maybe join a coaching class.
If you are serious about going for medical training, try a MBBS in China or Russia and then maybe do a MS/MD in India because those exams have no age barriers.
Your age shouldn’t be a problem- in a class of 200, every college has those 5-10 students who fall back every year…
they fit in… you are a NEW student… you most definitely will
Best of luck!!

Thanks.fitting in is my main concern.
is it bad to change careers though?at this stage?

that’s clearly up to you!
If you are from somewhere like IIT, BITS or NIT, then don’t.
If you are not from somewhere SPECTACULAR, you will be better off socially and monetarily as a doctor.
That is my personal point of view!
However you also have to keep in mind that a MS degree will cost you about 12 years! (that too assuming you clear all the entrances in your first attempts and that you don’t fall back in class)

Thank you.

btw if u ask me biotech in DCE is way way cooler. And there is a huge lot of doctors in India and to get good earnings you got to have your own clinic or hospital( which is very tough unless your parents are doctors too) otherwise you would end up spending a lot of time in silly apprenticeships which dont even guarantee you a job.

@nikrules what makes you think biotech is way way cooler?my parents are doctors btw.

I believe you also posted this thread sometime back,

And the point is you have had this discussion before. So what has changed?

why are you giving up such a wonderful career? biotech is a growin sector and in few years time it will have a lot of time and pay will be very high…even i am taking biotech…

well sara24 if your parents are doc. then i suppose no one can give you better advice then them. And as for the “cooler” part, many people including me would like to handle technological instruments be it biotech or any other field for living rather than human organs and blood.
