lol

haha this is poop...

I think they should change the name of this school. My daughter qualifies for a full ride scholarship but she won't consider it because of the name. And after reading this thread, I understand her concerns.

Something generic like Muncie State University or you could go with Muncie University if you wanted to go for a liberal arts college vibe.

I think they should change it too, but honeslty, people who live around here and attend (many of my friends who were older, and family attend currently) don't even flinch at the name.

It's my first choice school and I can't wait to go there and get a great education. Immature people may make fun at the name and stuff, but what matters is getting a good education and I doubt any future employer of your daughter would react this way to the name.

Kayleigh, I've noticed that when I talk to people from the midwest about Ball State, they can't even understand what the problem is with the name when I try to explain. People from here (Washington) uniformly thing it's a horrible name. You have to explain why it's named that - they have, at least, usually heard of Ball canning jars.

I might try to "convince" her to apply. Not only is the scholarship too good to pass up, she could swim there if she decided she wanted to.

I'll PM you.
I hope you can encourage her to apply though, it really is a shame to miss out on an opportunity just because of the name

lololol ***

how bout that football team?

they put the ball in football

BUMPalicious

hay thar old thrid

I’m from the midwest, graduated from Ball State, and I still think it’s a terrible name for a university. Years after graduation I still find it unfortunate. My daughter was recently considering Kalamazoo College, and my husband said, ‘well, you know what it’s like to be a Ball State graduate’, so we didn’t look at Kalamazoo. There is something in the name. It’s not just all the jokes you can make with the word ‘Ball’; the name lacks gravitas. Its a shame because its a good school with some fantastic programs and really great facilities. I loved the honors college; I felt that it really completed my education.
