The thing that worries me about UChicago is trying to write an essay for them, haha. :P

I was deferred it suckssss especially when before the knowing of the decision everyone tells you “oh you are totally getting in, blah blah blah”. And now you have to tell them “oh i got deferred”

BTW guys I was contacted by the school to be part of the National Opportunity Program at Columbia. Was anyone else contacted for this?

I kind of approached UChicago and their essays like I approached Columbia…genuinely and originally in my essays.
I wrote about something non-serious and completely ridiculous and made it really deep, which will either really amuse and appeal to them or which they will find as an insult to the question posed. Either way, it’s authentic on my behalf.
Is it naive that I think that’s the best way to do essays? In a FTW-if-they-don’t-like-it, it’s-who-I-am-and-they-should-know kind of way?

This really sucks. Now I have to send my scores to my other schools…and to the financial aid…yada yada yada.

P.s. I thought those who didn’t get accepted just got deferred automatically?

^yellow745 HA i wish :(

^seriously. I seriously thought there was a difference. I wonder how many people got deferred. I guess I don’t feel so crappy. I don’t know how the hell I got deferred (and not rejected) with an ACT of 28 and an SAT of 1810…while some who got rejected had WAY better scores. where is the logic in that?. Ivies are s0o0o0o weird for admissions. but Im pretty sure I shall get rejected for RD

Deferral is strange. You probably won’t be accepted, but at the same time, you weren’t rejected. It’s kind of like a dishonorable discharge. Rejected applicants are done with Columbia, but you guys do have a chance to apply, and a couple of you will be admitted in RD. You should probably treat it as a rejection, but be happy that the admissions committee saw something in you. Let Columbia drop to a high place on your RD list, but don’t consider it your definite top choice.

^Oh I know buddy maybe its because I was contacted for their National Opportunity Program, that’s why I was deferred.

Boston U, Syracuse and NYU are some of my tangible schools. I applied to Columbia Ed as a “dream”.

^^trust me. if you could get deferred at columbia, you should have no issues getting into syracuse.

also, jeez! i didn’t realize how many columbia applicants would be applying to U Chicago! i feel less fantastic about my chances now! but, uc is easier to get into for the most part right?

uchicago may be easier to get in grade-wise but they value essays and teacher recs more highly. so if you have strong scores but weak essays, it may actually be harder to get into uchicago

Where in nyc are you?
