Hello Everyone.

My name is Zach. I am currently a junior in high school. TAMU is my number one college choice, and I plan to major in Computer Engineering. Also, I plan to join Air Force ROTC.

Does anyone have an opinion and/or experience about the Engineering College @ TAMU or ROTC?

I've done my research, but if anyone can give me some information regarding my area of interest, I would appreciate it very much. :)

Thanks,

-Zach

Engineering is a very strong area at TAMU. ROTC is called the Corps. Joining the Corps. seems to help your chances of acceptance and they give you some good money, I hear. If you like school spirit and tradition, you will fit right in!

Zach, my son is in the Corps. If you will look through some of the other threads in the Texas a&m forum, you will find some links I posted to videos about the Corps. It has been a very good experience for our S. Hard? yes. But he loves the Corps and is so proud to be a part of it.

Most cadets receive a $2k scholarship to a&M, but there are also $8k and $10k scholarships (amount divided over first 2 years). And it definitely helps your admission chances if you commit to join the Corps.

Have you considered applying for an Air Force ROTC scholarship? My S has one and it is great. It pays all tuition & fees and provides money for books and a monthly stipend ($300/month for freshman, $350 for sophomores, etc.). You have a 4 year Air Force obligation after you graduate. Google air force rotc scholarship to find out more.

Thanks for the posts guys.

There anyone out there that is in the Corp and can tell me from first hand experience the lifestyle you live compared to that of regular students? :P

I'm not in the Corps, so I can't help you there, but I'll add that if you're interested in ROTC programs, A&M is the place for you.
If you want to study engineering, A&M is absolutely the place for you.
If you want to do both, you should just, like, move in now...
I'm kidding, but I hope you see my point.
That said, I strongly recommend visiting, if at all possible. That will give you a sense of whether you fit in here or not. Have you heard of the "spend the day/night with the corps" programs? They might give you some insight.
Best of luck to you!
Thanks and gig 'em!

Thanks Penguin. Will do.
