Hello guys, please help

I need some help and the counselors in my community college are not helpful at all, please help me. I’m going to graduate this semester from my local Community college and i have a 2.8 GPA (3 semesters completed) as of now but I wanted to transfer and I’m afraid this GPA is low and I’m not going to get in. It wasn’t until last semester that I finally figured out what i want to spend the rest of my life doing.

I want to do engineering or physics and the schools I wanted to apply are
University at Albany
University at Buffalo
Suny Oneonta
Stony Brook University

They all say they require a minimum of a 2.5gpa but I’m having doubts that people have got in those schools with a low GPA. My lowest GPA was my second semester and that was mainly due to the fact i had lost someone at the end of the semester, I wasn’t focused and I screwed up a lot of my exams and finals. Math has always been my strong point, I got a A in Calculus 1 and a B in Calculus based physics. currently taking Calc II and Calc Physics II and some other courses and i wanted to know if i should apply now with a 2.8 GPA or wait until i finish my fourth semester and try to improve my GPA. Chances are though that i wont end this semester with a 4.0 because Calc II and physics has been a lot more tougher then i thought they would be. please help me, should i do community service at someplace before submitting my applications. God bless you all, Thanks.

I was an adjunct at one of the SUNY campuses. What I would suggest is that you make an appointment with one of the admissions reps at the closest SUNY campus to you. Go in and explain your situation. Ask them what makes successful applications from community college students stand out.

I suspect they are going to recognize that you are taking very difficult courses, and that a 2.8 looks pretty good considering your classes!

OK, Thanks for all the help. I really hope they look at the hard courses I took and see potential. It just my parents didn’t have the chance to go to college and i really don’t want to disappoint them because they have been so supportive. Thank you, I will make some calls.
