Hello...I need advice!

Hello, I am a junior in Long Island, New York. Currently, my GPA is a 3.7 (UNWEIGHTED). It was much higher last years, but this year I have taken many more challenging courses (AP- Physics B, Spanish, Statistics, Biology, English, US History). I have also been a tri athlete (Football, basketball, lacrosse). Although I am okay at the first two sports, I'm much better at lacrosse. Anyway, I have a couple of questions...First, what types of universities should i be looking into if I am hoping to become a doctor in the future....also, how important would you say the first semester of senior year is? Oh, and what are your opinions on the combined programs BS/MD and BA/MD? Umm...i think that's it for now...please respond ASAP.

Don't pick a school because it's "good for premed." You may change your mind, and most of the top 50 colleges/universities are good for premed anyway. Pick it based on other criteria- location, size, student body, etc.

BA(or BS)/MD programs are excellent programs (see here for a list), but many are quite competitive. If you get in, though, you have it much easier.

First semester is not as important if you apply ED, but for RD it can be very important, especially with admissions becoming more competitive. A friend of mine did very well throughout high school and was rejected from Northwestern specifically because of her so-so senior grades.

I strongly suggest you look into LACs if you don't mind smaller colleges. The small size makes it better for premed, IMO, and they tend to be more holistic in admissions (which would benefit you, since you have good grades and ecs).

Im not too good with the college lingo...but what does the acronym "LAC" stand for? Also, could you provide more specific college or university names? I'm looking for schools that are not too big...but not too small...preferably over 5000ish...also, i would love to play lacrosse in college...so maybe a DIII lacrosse team...or DII...i dont think im good enough for DI...but yeah...the more specific the better...

hey gangsta,

i'll be a freshman at in the union/amc med program this fall, feel free to pm me if u need stats and the like

Oops, sorry about that.
LAC = liberal arts college
ecs = extracurricular activities

I can suggest some colleges, but I need a lot more info than you're giving us. What exactly are you looking for (location, urban/suburban/rural, etc.), and what are your stats (GPA, SAT, rank, ecs, etc.)?

If there are any other people like whatever78 who are or have been in a combined program, would you please pm me...also if you know a lot about them...feel free to pm me as well...thanks
