hello pitt applicants!

Is this school worth it for undergrad? I am considering going here because they offered me soo much money but I have been accepted to stanford and will probably be accepted to one of the ivys. How is the honors program? Is it just a group of competitive kids or is it a place where you can take smaller classes with most people getting good grades? Also are the people just partiers or do they take things seriously?

i was wondering the same thing. however, i do know someone about 4 years ago who got into columbia and turned it down for pitt.

from what i've heard, pitt is amazing...

haha it's been like 3 weeks... i'm anxious for a decision!!

Can anyone give me a specific experience with the school cuz I am in a real dilemma?

My d got her acceptance from Pitt in November, 2 weeks after she applied. She has a friend that goes there and loves it. We only hear great things about the school, nothing negative. My d was also accepted to Penn State main campus. She is awaiting for a # of other decisions, but is considering Pitt along with Penn State.

anyone else doing ther chancelors scholarship application, mines due tomorrow, the essays are impossible!

To those asking whether the school is worth it: If you can get into an Ivy and have enough money to pay for it, then, by all means, go for the ivy. The only way I can really see why someone would pass up an ivy league school (or ivy equivalent) for Pitt is because of money issues.

Question... for those of you who have gotten into the Honors College... do they tell you if you're in the honors college in the decision letter? or are you told at a later date?

I would go to Stanford because I may be able to afford it if I get loans (I got little financial aid cuz I am middle income) but that would mean I would end up with at least 80k after just undergrad. So that's why Pitt may not be so bad to go to since I plan to grad school later anyways.

Hey KountingSheep987, I am trying to do mine but the essays are so long and ask for so much that I don't know if I can do them in time. When is yours due and do you know anything about the scholarship that may be of interest? I only know it provides all that extra stuff and req. an interview.

yea, mine was due yesterday , the 31st, well it may have been due the 30th im not sure, o well, i did the second essay, the citizen of the world for the topical essay, i jsut submitted my common app essay for the first one, I dont really want to go to Pitt unless I ahve no choice, the scholarship basically means that you dont have to pay a thing for college which is nice....umm and ure advisors are the honors college advisors not the regular college ones which i guess is nice because they dont ahve so many students to advise so i guess u get more personal attention

I applied on the 10th, and called the 19th they said they sent my letter. Got my acceptance in the mail yesterday after I got back from vacation. How long did it take before you received information about sending an essay for the chancellor's scholarship?

umm it took2 to 3 weeks, its not jsut an essay, its a really un cool application
u need 2 teacher recs. ( i already ahd those for my app and jsut had my teachers resend thtem)
and then 2 incredibly non fun esays enjoy!

what colleges and majors(if decided) did everyone get that applied. I got college of Arts and Science's for Computer Science.

i got Engineering- chemical engineering

I got biomedical engineering

I got into pitt, i'm going to take a look soon. Any thoughts if it's better than penn state (main?)

hey i've also been accepted to pitt and am pretty sure i'll be going there...i need to visit soon/see what its like though..kind of random, but is anyone planning on going into the school of nursing?

I guess if your wondering what's better penn state or pitt, it depends on the major. Both are good schools, I like Pitt a lot better than penn state.

hey does anyone know anything about pitt's med school? i got accepted in with the works - honors college, full scholarship, and possibly guaranteed med school acceptance. i'm still going to wait on my other college acceptances, but the deal that pitt is offering is almost unbeatable. have you guys visited yet, and if so, what was your perception of pitt?

I don't know any real details about the pitt medical program but I heard it is very good. The University of Pittsburgh medical center is located right on the campus. They are ranked in the top 20 programs for heart disease treatment in the country, other rankings I don't know. I only have heard good things. As for when I visited I liked it a lot. The area is nice because it is mainly college students(Carnegie Mellon is right there, and so is Dusquene university. Five minutes and your downtown Pittsburgh. I would definately reccomend visiting.
