Hello!

Hey Guys, I have a 3.57 GPA. I am majoring in math at a community college. I am a first generation Asian american from a low income family… Never took SATs or Acts. I struggled to understand the importance of an education in highschool, so I barely finished with a 2.1 GPA while in special ed classes. As, a result I had to start in developmental classes. Now, I am in Hola Cub, Math club, Japanese club, Asian club, and International club. And I am a teaching assistant for a Calc 2 class. And I made it from pre-algebra to finishing Linear algebra and Differential Equations in College. I also have two letters of recommendations from teachers. How can I increase my chances of getting into Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences? Thank u so much for ur comments.

Hmm, well it seems like you definitely picked yourself up and turned your life around. Kudos for that. Transferring into Cornell from CC is a crapshoot any way you look at it. You might have a better chance at picking the winning lottery ticket; however, I think if you get the GPA up a tiny bit more, show some real passion in your clubs/EC’s, and strive to exhibit why you want to transfer, why you want to pursue the career that you do, and why Cornell can help you achieve that.

You’re an attractive candidate to many colleges. Cast a wide net. Go spk w/your CC’s “transfer adviser” – it’s his/her job to help you craft a good list of target colleges. You should have no problem getting into a solid program. Maybe not Cornell – but you’ll be fine. Congrats on turning things around.

BTW: please title your posts with something more informative – you’ll get more looks. “Hello” reminds me of Lionel Richie.

Thank u for ur feed back guys!!!
