You must be proud.....good for him. Did you see the thread "lost boys"? in the parents forum? I guess he is not in that category!

Yes I am proud but he definately had to find his way on his own, in fact he has recently said that if he worked as hard in HS has he did in college who knows where he would have ended up. I saw a great growth in motivation as each year passed in college. I'm sure your S will also slowly mature and grow, we just have to be patient (as hard as that might be at times)

Thank you- very comforting to know!

Songman - Where is your son thinking of heading? I live in MA, and have several siblings who have attended UMass at some point in thier academic careers. I have a freshman at Pitt, who is adjusting to college academic requirements, and looked at UMass. My youngest is a sophomore and is interested only in large state schools. After my experience going back and forth to Pitt, I would love it if he could stay a little closer to home. He is a fairly organized, persistent type of kid. Am wondering about UMass

Massmom you asked where is my son heading? He is enrolled already and completed one year at Umass/Amherst Commonwealth college....He enjoyed the experience and wants to go back to school now. So far the best I can tell Umass/Amherst is what a student makes it. There will be no hand holding there- however, shining stars can shine easier than at a small LAC. Funny the opposite of what many on these boards think no? It is true that there are some students there that do not belong, others that do minimal work and party, that leaves the field wide open for the go gettters. They have the resources and a wonderful college town to really liven up the college spirit. While more expensive than most state schools one year of tuition etc for in state is 18,000!
