Hi, so im new in this page, but i noticed that people here are really helpful, and i need someone to calm me down. This year, is going to be my last high school year. Im a senior, and i want to go to UCLA, but i have a "friend", who keeps telling me that i will never get admitted, she always makes it sound like i'm not good enough or something. But i really want to go there. What can i do so that i WILL get admitted?

What’s your GPA? How are your test scores? Extracurricular activities?

We can’t really give you advice if we know nothing about you.

Yeah, you’re right.
Ok, so right now i have a 3.95, and in my last SAT i got a little over 1700
and in the first ACT i took, which i plan on taking again, i got a 25
And, about the extracurricular, well i was in the tennis team last year, and this year i will be
too. I was in the spring musical during my sophomore year, and in another play my junior year. I guess im not big on extracurricular activities.

If you want a decent chance at UCLA, you NEED to raise your test scores. Even if that 3.95 GPA is unweighted, which I suspect it is not, neither a 1700 SAT nor a 25 ACT is going to cut it. Your extracurriculars aren’t stellar, but they aren’t terrible either, and your time would be much better spent working on those test scores. Have you taken the SAT subject tests required for the UCs? Because you’ll need to do well on those too.

The UC system takes test scores and grades into account more than they do ECs, which makes it a bit different from private schools. Your ECs aren’t strong, but it’s going to be your test scores that keep you out of UCLA. Definitely retake. Your SAT score should be at least above 2000 (or whatever the corresponding ACT score is).

a lil over 1700 is good for UCSD, but not UCLA. retake those tests, of course, after you’ve studied.

Are you good enough at tennis that UCLA would be interested in you?

mm no i don’t think i am that good at tennis.
mm yeah i plan on retaking both the SAT and the ACT… i took the SAT II and I got a little over 1900, i hope next time i can do better.
what would you recommend me to do, so that my score is higher than 2000?

the 3.95 is my college GPA

The max score for the SAT II is 800. I think you misinterpreted what SAT II meant – they’re also known as SAT Subject tests (i.e. SAT US History, SAT Math II).

But yeah, definitely improve those scores. The best way to get your SAT score above 2000, I think, is to take a class. If you don’t have time or can’t afford it, then buy those SAT review books, read through some of their strategies, and do LOTS AND LOTS of practice problems. Seriously, practice made all the difference for me.

that SAT is slackin

i know what they are… i just dont get the scores…
i got a 530 on math II… which i can totally improve, i didnt know that i just had n hour.
n i got 580 on us history n 800 on spanish
