I am a parent/Godmother of a 19 yr. old sophmore in college. He majors in music performance. He plays the viola. He auditioned for Indiana Jacobs of Music and was accepted and then decided to stay local. I was hoping he would reapply for this year. He wants to make a living at playing the viola in an orchestra. Any suggestions that would be helpful that I could pass on. thanks.

Godmother1, welcome.

I’ve asked the moderators move this thread to the forum Northstarmom suggests.

Your post is a bit unclear. Did he apply and was accepted to IU/Jacobs and did not matriculate, or did/does he currently attend Jacobs?

Local to where? What state is he living in, and what are his geographic preferences?

An audition based admit to Jacobs indicates he would be competitive in any number of top music programs for performance. The issue becomes teacher selection, peer quality and affordability.

What were his other choices in addition to Jacobs? This is helpful in identifying his relative competitiveness and type of program/instructor he was looking at initially.

^ If you indicate both acceptances and rejections in answering my question above, it also serves to be able to better suggest some options.
