That out of the way, I want to work for a company such as LM, Grumann, and other "defense companies" I have seen Rogracers post about the schools they recruit out of mostly. But, due to monetary concerns (and grad school potentially) and it would be tough to get into UCB and UCSD, I was wondering if you all could name schools that are superior in mechanical engineering that I could possibly get into. And CA resident. I could go to RPI but it is rather pending on scholarship money. Any ideas or schools are great. Thanks!

I mean, is there anything below 30,000 tuition that has good small class sizes and a name? RPI is just to much with room and board. And 20,000 is the best amount for tuition.

San jose state has descent aerospace and mechanical programs that are pretty easy to get in to. And it would only be about 20,000 for tuition and room and board. You might have a chance at getting in to UC Davis or UC Irvine. Most of the UC schools are going to be a reach for you I think. Cal poly is another reach. I think San jose state would be the best match.

I’m not too sure about chemical… I’m majoring in either Mech. or Aero. But I’ve heard UCSB is supposed to be great for Chemical and I think Davis too. Again, those are probably reaches. For CSU schools, probably san jose again, but I’m not sure. I just know san jose is one of the better engineering schools out of the csu’s.

So I change my mind on engineering alot, due to I want to kind of design weapons. So I am trying to find which field suits me best. So would SJSU let me get a “taste” of each field?

I will suggest minnesota - twin cities as first option… fee is v less, somewhat near 16k, and good engineering…

Today, i was searching some other univs for engg… I was shocked to see univs like missouri tech, polytechnic u of nyu, NM tech in the list of univs whose students are earning above 65k…
you better take a look at these names too

Out of all of those, Minnesota is the only school that’s better than San Jose state, and I don’t think Minnesota would be worth the extra 9000 or so.

You shouldn’t just take wages of graduates into consideration. A place like NY would have a high living cost so naturally the salaries have to be higher.

Texas A&M is roughly $22,000 for out-of-state tuition. However, if you receive a scholarship from the university greater than $1,000 (I believe that’s the value), you’ll get an in-state waiver and pay roughly $8,000 a year for tuition. That’s a great deal for a school that has excellent ties with aerospace companies such as NASA and Lockheed Martin.

I’m assuming you’re a HS junior? My son had the same stats back in 09 and only got into the lower UCs, SJSU and Cal Polys for ME (actually BRAE at CP slo). With the budget cuts in CA, you’ll have a chance at UCR and UCM as a ME major. Even the CSUs are getting pretty selective.

If your concerned about money, I recommend community college then transfer to a higher UC or other good engineering school. That way you’ll get the smaller class size for your GEs and then for the upper division courses. Heck you’re instate in CA…might as well take advantage of all the state taxes your parents paid for!
