is there any possible way at all to lessen the importance of my 2nd term grades? Or explain to the admissions why they are not as high as they could be?

I want to go here more than anything, but due to my uncle's death late in the term (after I had applied), my grades slipped because I had to miss alot of school to come out to Michigan for the wake and funeral, and I didn't really have the time to make it up.

I know that these were the most important grades of my life, and I feel like I won't be accepted into Notre Dame with them right now. :(

How much do they really look at your 2nd term grades, and what can I do right now to help my situation.

well, you would already be accepted so it would take reallllllllllllly bad grades in your second semester for them to take away that acceptance... how bad are we talking here...

Dear AC419
Sorry about the death of your uncle. Sometimes classes and grades have to take a back seat to life.
If you think there was a significant drop in grades, consider having your guidance counselor talk with the ND admissions rep who supports your area after the grades have gotten in your file, and explain about your uncle's passing. In any event, please don't think that these are "the most important grades of your life" and that you've let an opportunity go by. ND will look at all of your grades, and performance in one quarter of a year is certainly not as big an indicator of your talents as full year grades from the other three years.
Don't forget that legacies like yourself have an admission rate close to 50% so you start off in good shape to begin with. Good luck!
