Help! 96 in class, 0 on SAT II.

My scores were delayed because of an error. Today, I found out my scores, and they are TERRIBLE. While everyone else has a 800 on Math 2 and Physics, my scores are 670 and 700 respectively. This is TERRIBLE. The schools I am looking to apply to require 750+ on both exams.

I am so disappointed. In both precalc and Honors Physics, I received the grade of 96 (very respectable, although everyone else in my class has 97+). I think my approach to the exams was terrible. I ran out of time studying, so I started self-studying physics 1 week before the exam. My teacher did not cover enough of the topics for SAT II, so I had to "cram" alot of information. Thus, I failed the exam.

For Math II, I did not have enough time to review, and others "reassured me" incorrectly that I would get at least a 750+, because of my decent performance in Precalc. That was NOT the case.

Now, I have to retake the exams in October. If I self-study this summer, using PR, barrons, official exams, and Sparknotes, do you think I can do 750+ on both exams? Does anyone have advice for someone in a terrible situation like me?

I am such a failure. The net result of this, is I can't do EC, because now I have to retake both SAT I (low 21) and SAT II. No top college will accept a failure like me.

0=/=670 or 700

Schools don’t require minimum GPAs or test scores.

You can’t get a 21 on SATI.

I smell a…

He meant 2100s probably.

@scintallation Lol shut up.

that smelly smell that smells smelly…

“I am such a failure. The net result of this, is I can’t do EC, because now I have to retake both SAT I (low 21) and SAT II. No top college will accept a failure like me.”

T…TR…TRO…

"He meant 2100s probably. "

Sorry, thats what I meant.

Why is this considered ■■■■■■■■ when everyone else in the forum has a 800? What I really needed was advice to boost my score. I mean, you have to admit that this is pretty frustrating, that I did so poorly on these exams. At this point, I really can’t do Early Decision.

Scientillation, I’m sorry about the fellow CCers above. Please understand that with AP scores coming so soon, tensions are high… Nonetheless, they are being very inconsiderate, and I think that your fears and concerns are very much warranted. Are you a rising senior?

Anyways, it is very much possible for you to study over the summer for all of these exams, do well, and still have a life extracurricular-wise. Taking practice exams is key - take as many as you possibly can, and I assure you that it will pay off! (just make sure you understand what you missed and how) If you do not have the financial means to take so many practice tests, sit in a bookstore with a paper and pencil and take them, because practice tests help THAT much. Trust me, I know!

And NO ONE, not even those that have perfect SATs and SATIIs, has no time for extracurriculars. You can’t physically spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week studying - if anything, an overly rigorous no-life study plan might actually hurt you. Use extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, volunteer work to relax and take a break from the study room!

I understand that you are disappointed and were looking for top colleges, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Even so, have some back-up schools; it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get into Ivy League! Don’t be so narrow-minded, and moreover, don’t compare yourself to the people on collegeconfidential. Be yourself when you write your college essays… Remember, in the case of Ivy Leagues, it is a crapshoot for EVERYONE and EVERYONE has a chance, including you. Good luck! If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

(Initiating rant.)

you sound like the biggest loser on the planet, not because of your scores, but because of your loser attitude. And I have a 32 ACT with SAT II scores of 670 (physics) 720 (Math 2) and 770 (US History), so I’m not one of those overachievers that thinks anything under perfection is failure.

Where should I start?

“While everyone else has a 800 on Math 2 and Physics, my scores are 670 and 700 respectively.”

With the exception of Chinese and other foreign language test (except Spanish), a small minority (usually less than 10%) of kids are getting all 800s. Dont let the people on CC mislead you (this is a very skewed sample)

“The schools I am looking to apply to require 750+ on both exams.”

NO school requires a minimum score. Those are just rumors that the intellectual elite use to make themselves feel more special.

“In both precalc and Honors Physics, I received the grade of 96 (very respectable, although everyone else in my class has 97+).”

…on second thought, I’m not even going to touch this one…

“I ran out of time studying, so I started self-studying physics 1 week before the exam.”
“For Math II, I did not have enough time to review, and others “reassured me” incorrectly that I would get at least a 750+…”

Seems like you should already know the answer to your question. Better study habits could have prevented all of this

But before studying can help you, I suggest getting rid of these:

“I found out my scores, and they are TERRIBLE.” “I am so disappointed.”
“Thus, I failed the exam.” “I am such a failure.” “0 on SAT II.”

And on top of that, you’re complaining about a 2120 SAT.

Carry that attitude while you’re studying and I guarantee your score wont get any better

Your problem is attitude and probably lack of study time. Your problem is NOT that you’re stupid. YOU"RE NOT STUPID, SO STOP ACTING LIKE IT!!! There are kids that are legitimately stupid. You may not get into Harvard or MIT or wherever, but they don’t even think of those schools because they no they have no chance in hell. They go to the local school or tech school because they think that’s all they’re good for. They literally think they are the stupidest people on Earth, a shame to their family, and sometimes a waste of space.I’ve met kids like this so it kills me when smart kids beat themselves down over things like this.

So in all I would say you should get a grip, gain some perspective, and change your attitude. Only after these things will you be able to confidently go in and achieve your desired scores.

(Rant complete.)

I see why your ****ed. 700 on physics is like 30 questions wrong and 670 IIC is, well, less than stellar.

Here’s my advice (I got 800 on both, and also on chemistry)

For physics, I just used sparknotes (mainly) and suplemented with princeton review. I took a total of 4 tests and got 780,770,790,800 (something like that, all I remember was last one was an 800). Just keep working at it.

For math2 I didn’t really study much. One or two practice tests should be enough. Just get familiar with the format, because if you got an A in precalc you should be fine for an 800.

For Math level 2, it’s all about using your calculator. When in doubt, plug everything in. Also use guess and check whenever you can.

Maybe you’re just not intelligent, Scintillation. Ever considered that? ;)

^Agreed with Buzz. Aim lower Scintillation. Not attending an ivy league or even top tier school isn’t the end of the world
