Help a brother out

I've been having trouble trying to find a college that's a good fit for me. I know I definitely want to major in English, preferably somewhere that offers an MA after 5 years. My home state is CT so I'm looking for a college in CT, MA, NY, RI, or southern NH. I scored a 690 on the SAT verbal, 550 on the SAT Math, and, despite having around a 2.0 GPA, my English grades have always been strong.

Basically I'm looking for the strongest/most challenging English program that is a realistic option for me as I'm really trying to buckle down and work hard. I coasted through in high school and have been regretting it since graduating.

Also, somewhere with a college radio station would be a plus because I just graduated from CSB School of Broadcasting and am working my way up at a large media conglomerate company.

Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance..

With a 2.0 high school GPA, my recommendation would be to go to a community college. Your SAT score indicates you have the wherewithal to do very well at a community college, if you decide to start working a lot harder than you did in high school.

A high GOA from a community college, coupled with your SAT scores, will get you into a much better four-year school than you are likely to get into now. It would also likely be cheaper.

That is definitely an option, there is a community college within walking distance from my house. How long would you recommend I attend community college before transferring to a four-year school?

Long enough so that you have (good) grades to present on your transfer application, but I wouldn't stay longer than that.

Well how about a ballpark estimate then? I'm not trying to be a dick I just want a general idea.

2 years is usually what it takes to get a associates degree

Worcester State College in Massachusetts. Also, you may be eligible for reduced tuition if there's no Communications/Journalism/Radio major availabe at Connecticut public colleges. WSC has a very active college radio station.

Also, as was said, you need to work on your GPA. That being said, U of Alabama at Birmingham has a radio station and a very impressive English department faculty.
