It is only on CC that people talk about transfer students. I know a lot of Cornell students, and they have friends who are transfers, and they have never said anything disparaging about transfer students, my older daughter included.

My nephew is a freshman at Cornell now. He is from CA. He is loving it. He told us that Ithaca weather wasn’t as bad as he expected. My daughter told him that it was only the warmest winter in the NE.

My younger daughter will be matriculating this fall. I am getting some silk undershirt and pants for her. Silk is very warm and light. D1 said they were god send when she was at Cornell. You could get them at many discount stores. I got Patagonia coats for D1 because they are breathable/light and also water proof (they put extra protection around the neck and sleeves). As mentioned by Lilydrenn, Ithaca is wet. D1 used to joke about weather forecast in Ithaca, “Sunny with a chance of rain (snow),” “Cloudy with a chance of rain(snow),” “rain with a chance of snow.” Waterproof, warm boots is a must.

You could also get taxi around Ithaca very easily. It is convenient late at night going home from a party or doing some shopping off campus. It is not too expensive if you could share it with few friends.

ok awesome… thank you so much for ur help oldfort!

@youngjeezy, I’m in SoCal too (San Diego) and honestly, I’m pretty jaded by California weather. I’ve been to New York multiple times and Cornell once and have fallen in love with Ithaca’s lush forest and snow. I’d have to get used to the cold but I think it’s worth it.

Also, I took a taxi from the CVS in Ithaca right to the ILR School and it was $5. It was cool because the taxi driver knew the Cornell campus very well.

Still waiting for them to approve my “independent status.” hopefully that will happen soon. I haven’t gotten a credit eval yet… But I’m sure we’ll get them soon. I’m so afraid of the finaid situation. Have you read the “horror story” post in the CU thread list? I read it and was like “I need to delete this app from my phone immediately!”

Also, did you get your welcome package yet? I just got mine on Friday and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!

ILRgirl…ok cool thanks for the info
Lily…oh ok awesome, im sure itll work out fine dont worry about it haha…nah i havent and dont plan to because financial aid is what is making cornell a reality for me haha…ya if by welcome package u mean the letter with the ribbon, i got it the day i got the call :D

Yes… The ribbon. That’s awesome you got those on the same day.

hey guys, do you have any idea what you’re going to do as far as applying for housing goes (if you intend to live on campus)?

I’m living off campus

ya it was great  i already applied for a double in west campus, so we ll see what they give me! u?

A good way (cheap way) of getting off campus housing at this point is doing subletting - if you don’t mind moving mid year. Most students find off campus housing as early as fall/spring, so there are not that many good apartments left at this point. The good thing is most of those leases are for a whole year and a lot of students go study abroad for a semester junior year, so they sublet their apartments at a discount while they are away. My older daughter was able to get a sublet at one of the nicest apartment buildings in collegetown for 2/3 of the price.

awesome thanks a lot for your input oldfort
