I'm having some trouble filling out the common app:

Neither of my parents went to college, and they only graduated from high school. How would I note that on the common app? Would I leave everything blank for college and grad school, or should i note that they don't have degrees from either by selecting 'none'?

My brother is still in college, so should I fill out his expected graduation date, or just leave it blank?

Do Gov School and Girls/Boys State count as 'enrichment programs' that take place on college campuses? They were held at colleges, but idk if they're only looking for classes taken at a college. If not, where would I put them on the app?

For the optional race question, would it be bad if I filled it out? I'm taiwanese btw. I was going to just leave it blank, but I already said that Chinese was the primarily language spoken at home, so does it even matter?

On chances threads, I always see people commenting that it's better to have a 'focus' with your ECs. My ECs all mostly deal with gov't, debate, poly sci. So for my proposed major and interests, should I indicate that I want to major in something like poly sci/IR, when I really want to major in engineering? I think selecting poly sci/IR would make sense for my application, but wouldn't a female engineer look good too?

I think that's it for now.. lol. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Leave it blank

Not sure, but I would put in expected graduation date.

Not sure.

What I did was select “Other East Asian”, and filled out Taiwan.

Regarding Governor’s Schools: You’ll need to add these to the part of the app that asks about programs that took place on a college campus, and here’s why: You need to indicate where the programs took place, and you will do this through a CEEB code search, much like when you reported which secondary school you attend. But Common App Online stores college and high school CEEBs separately, which means that you need to search for college campuses using the college CEEB search and high school campuses using the high school CEEB search. In other words, the question is worded the way that it is to make sure you find what you are looking for.

I hope that makes sense…

I had the same “first generation” college student question for the Common App, because strangely, under the college for parents section in “degree received” there is a “high school” option, so wouldn’t we fill that in? I don’t know Sorry I’m no help

I’m half Taiwanese as well & I put that down under Southeast Asia.
& I’m wondering about Girls State too. I don’t think so.
Where did you talk about Girls State btw? Is that an honor? An extracurricular?

^ exactly… and if i do list it as an enrichment program that took place on college campus, there’s no room to say what program it was. i think i might just list it under additional info. because i really have no idea where it goes
