Hello

I've a friend who's admitted to an Ivy and replied to the offer by May 1st. However, the person failed the IB Diploma (as i less than 24 points). Is there anyway to get out of this and still not be rescinded? what are the best next steps in this situation? Thanks!

His best step is to call the college, discuss it with them and try to work out a solution.

Anyone else? more opinions please!!!

292 views and only 1 reply? He doesn’t have any backup offers . pleasee help, this is someone’s life

There are no more replies because there’s nothing to add to entomom’s response.

Your friend needs more than opinions, they need a definitive answer from someone working at the college. Do you GET the difference between a Chances thread and what your friend needs to know? One exists for opinions, the other is poorly served by even good faith opinions.

Yes, and it was someone’s responsibility to study for IB exams. I know that’s tough, but it must have taken some effort for a student with the academic ability to be admitted to a very selective college to then fail knowing what was on the line.

Is it better to contact the school now and or wait until official IB results come out in July?

You’re really tenacious on your friend’s behalf!

Have your friend think this through. If there’s going to be a problem, would your friend be better off addressing it now, or in July, when it would be, for example, too late to make up any deficiency in summer school? And if there’s not going to be a problem, wouldn’t your friend rather know that now than go from now until July with worry hanging over his head like Damocles’ sword?

A kid headed to an Ivy ought to be clever enough to know the answer.
