Hi everyone,
I'm an international sophomore currently studying at Columbia College, SC. It is a small liberal arts women's college and I want to transfer out of it to a more challenging place. I have 2130 in my SAT, Math-800, CR-620 and Writing-710 (I took it this feb). My GPA in my college is 4.0. Can anyone suggest me a college, where I should apply and which accepts international transfer students?

If you have the funds to transfer, I’m sure there are many schools that would take you. Are you a full-pay student?

What is your major?

??? If you’re a current soph, why did you take the SAT last Feb? Weren’t you a freshman then?

I’m guessing that you want a co-ed college? What else do you want in a college? Big, small, quiet? rah rah big sports, rural, big city, college town???

I’m sorry for not clarifying that earlier. My SAT scores expired last year, so when I had time I took it again. I’m currently on full-tuition scholarship and I do not have any funds to transfer. My major is Computer Science. I do not have any choice of the size of the college. The only thing I want is challenging academics. Can you please help me out?

Finding a place that will be more challenging and will give full tuition to an international transfer students (or any transfer student for that matter) will be difficult if not impossible. My recommendation is that you seek out your academic advisor and tell him or her that you’re thinking about transferring because of the lack of academic challenge. My experience at three higher ed institutions has been that your educational will be what you make of it. You can always ask your faculty instructors for more challenging work, to participate in their research, to guide you in your own research. Your situation is one that some folks would be envious of - take advantage of it.

It’s not just the academia, the resources here are not enough. And it is actually very easy to get an A, all you’ll have to do is attend all classes and do your homework. I’m from Asia and I’m so not used to something as this. I don’t want to efface my habits to study hard and don’t want to take the A’s I get without much effort for granted. Perhaps there might not be this perfect college that accepts an international transfer student with full aid, but I just don’t want to regret later in life that I didn’t try finding one. Can you please help me out?

I don’t think any school is going to give a transfer int’l a full ride scholarship. I don’t think any schools give American transfer students full ride scholarships.

How much can your parents pay each year?

Transfer students typically get little to nothing in scholarships. Colleges give the good scholarships to incoming freshmen only.

I have heard cases in which the administration and office personnel take offense with students who are trying to leave. The school has given you a lot of money and they may be insulted that you are not happy and want to leave. They brought you in because they think that YOU can improve things at that school and inspire the other students to do more and better. I agree with Lynxinsider- you need to stay and work with the school and try to give back by encouraging others. Maybe you can do research with professors and also get into good summer internships or research opportunities at bigger schools. If you try to transfer and can’t afford it, you may ruin things for yourself at your current school and be seen as ungrateful. You will graduate before you know it and have an opportunity to go elsewhere for graduate school. Most likely, you will be able to graduate early if the college is so easy for you.
