Hi everyone! I’m a junior aiming for Ivy League-level schools. I took the January SAT and received an 800 math, 770 (40 writing, 37 critical reading), and 8/6/7 essay.
I plan to take the SAT again since it seems a 37 CR score is the 25th percentile of HYP/etc. I want my writing ability as my strength, so I’m aiming to have an 800 in reading (and no “6” scores in my essay) to avoid having a potential weakness.
Currently I’m scoring at 770-790 reading on past practice tests, but I still really need to polish my essay writing skills. Thankfully, I have many unused essays, but I’ve only got one official SAT practice test left.
On top of that, I also am trying to study for the SAT Math II and a humanities subject test (i.e. Literature) to take in June.
So any advice on managing this particular configuration of tests? If you’ve prepped for both SAT and SAT subjects at the same time, how did you manage to do that? Also, how would you advise prepping with only one unused test left?
Thank you all!
Your score is good enough for the Ivy Leagues. An SAT score of 1500+ is competitive for those schools, and you’re already well above that
After taking your subject tests, what will really set you apart from the other applicants will be your application essays, teacher recommendation letters, extracurriculars, etc. Work on those instead once you’re finished with the subject tests and you’ll have a better shot at those schools than getting 1600 and an 8/7/7 on an SAT!
Don’t retake - a 1570 is more than good enough. It’s also not inconceivable that your score might drop the second time around. I assume you’ll be applying to some schools that will want to see your total standardized testing history. Focus on your SAT II subject tests instead. And congrats - that is an awesome score!
@acomfysofa @mamaedefamilia Thank you for your advice! I recognize that 1570 is a sufficient score, although I am trying to be conscious of any potential weaknesses in my application. Thus, I plan on taking the SAT Literature subject test in June or August.
Would having an 800 in SAT Literature demonstrate my reading abilities similar to how an 800 CR score would? Or do colleges generally interpret subject test scores differently? Thanks all!
