Hi! I am currently a rising senior trying to create my college list.
I am from NJ. I attend a small public magnet program high school for health sciences that is a top 20 school in the state.
I plan on majoring in nursing, and would like to attend a school with a direct admit (4 year) nursing program.
Stats:
1320 SAT
3.7 GPA
4 dual enrollment classes (all health science focused)
My school does not rank.
ECs:
National Honor Society
Varsity field hockey
4H (w/ leadership role)
Member of a teen mental health council for my county
Retail job I have worked at for almost a year
Shadowing hours with a physical therapist
Peer Tutor in World History
Ultimately, a school with a tuition of $50,000 or less a year would be ideal.
My current list:
- Rutgers
- TCNJ
- Northeastern
- Penn State
- Temple
- Scranton
- Quinnipiac
- Purdue
- UT Austin
Open to pretty much any suggestions (although I would prefer no schools on the west coast). Thanks in advance!
Urban? Rural? Anything else important?

TCU is a top target in Texas because all four years are on or close to campus.
You may get a pretty good scholarship.

The University of Tennessee at Knoxville has direct admit to its nursing program for freshmen, here: Admissions | College of Nursing. Undergraduate tuition for OOS students is about $32,000.

Hartwick in upstate NY might be worth a look. A friend’s daughter is studying nursing there and got some pretty good financial aid with similar stats. We also have a cousin who went to Utica College with a pretty good merit award, too.

As far as location goes, schools in urban areas (ex.Temple) or where the school is the focus of the city (ex. Purdue) would be ideal!
I’ve never even heard of TCU… will be sure to check it out. Thank you!
In PA we are able to find a list of schools and their pass rates for NCLEX, including how many tested. It’s here:
https://www.dos.pa.gov/ProfessionalLicensing/BoardsCommissions/Nursing/Documents/Board%20Documents/RN-Pass-Rates.pdf
It often helps kids get a list of schools they want to look at further because schools really good at nursing may be those people rarely hear about.
From our school, York College of PA and Messiah are both popular choices, though Messiah is Christian, so might not be of interest. There are plenty of others with good stats to choose from.
NJ might have something similar?

Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. All women’s undergrad, coed grad. Great merit aid. Excellent, highly regarded nursing program.
